I was asked to disable hyper-threading on one of our Dell PowerEdge R720XD servers. Looking in the BIOS it doesn’t stand out as an option however it does exist. You simply need to select the logical processor setting and set its value to disable and this will in turn disable hyper-threading, because it will only report one logical process per core. We had several Dell servers that have ESXi installed on SD card which still showed missing patches after installing the 7.0.1 build 16850804. When we restarted the ESXi host it reverted back to 7.0.0. After some investigation we noticed issues with /bootbank and /altbootbank. We also noticed this issue on a freshly installed ESXi 7.0.1 build. What is esx.problem.hyperthreading.unmitigated? Upgraded one of our ESXi hosts with the latest patches released today that are aimed at fixing the L1 Terminal Fault issues. After that the host started giving this warning: esx.problem.hyperthreading.unmitigated. No idea what it’s supposed to mean!
Verify that you have the URL of the host, which is the IP address or host name.
The system must have an Internet connection.
Procedure
- From a Windows machine, open a Web browser.
- Enter the URL or IP address for the vCenter Server or host.For example, http://exampleserver.example.com or http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
- Click Download vSphere Client under Getting Started.
- Click Save to download the vSphere Client installer.
